rip dan wheldon
most people were probably watching football, but if you were watching indy, you would have seen dan wheldon's last race...it was supposed to be danica patrick's last race before moving to nascar permanently, but there was a large crash that killed wheldon...the race was not finished, and a five lap salute around the track was done in his honor instead

dtm
bmw is finally back in dtm, and they unveiled their concept m3...pretty intimidating but i doubt the real race car will be all black like this one

sleep
article about short sleepers

i fall in the chronically sleep deprived group...i have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, but i think it is because of the rat race...we weren't meant to wake up every morning to sit in an office all day long...sometimes i feel like getting rid of everything i own and live like an acsetic in the mountains like into the wild
(i would keep my guns of course for catching food...and toilet paper...i would have to stock up on a lot of toilet paper...leaves suck)
it's based on a true story about christopher mccandless' trek to alaska after graduating college...in the movie version, he is so disgusted by his materialistic surroundings and the importance placed on financial success that he decides to give everything away and move to alaska to live in the wild on his own...not sure how accurate the movie is to the actual events or whether he went to alaska for the same reasons, but the movie is very good regardless...i haven't read the book
, so i can't recommend it...the soundtrack
for the movie is good too...songs written and performed by eddie vedder (pearl jam
)
the movie is about the people he meets and what he realizes at the end of his journey with a little side commentary about our materialistic society and conspicuous consumerism...good cast, good acting, and good story...you'll also see slab city in the movie and "off the grid" living, but that is for another post

rest of the grid girls from the post below...they probably like consumerism |
nascar
this is why nascar sucks...not because they only go left (they added road courses) but that the cars are terrible...the actual racing is decent enough to watch
http://www.autoblog.com/2011/04/06/nascar-could-test-fuel-injection-as-early-as-july/
it's 2011 and they're finally trying out fuel injection...racing should be about pushing racing engineering to its limits and not keeping technology that was obsolete by the 80's for as long as possible...the "car of tomorrow" was also a bad idea...none of the cars actually look like the cars they're supposed to be
nascar wants people to believe that the car pictured above is a toyota camry...camry with a push rod v8 and rear wheel drive...compare this with le mans...it has the best blend of race cars that look like production cars pushed to the limit with gt classes and you have super exotic high tech lmp classes that can give f1 a run for its money in terms of racing r&d and performance...and they race on great tracks... they race multiple classes together, which makes for some interesting passing scenarios
ferrari, audi, porsche, bmw, and many others.....vs....chevy, ford, dodge, and toyota...you'll never get racing like this in nascar
